So I call vantec and their tech guy says this is a known issue that is not specific to their drives. I am using the 'Standard SATA AHCI Controller' driver (storahci.sys) from Microsoft in Windows 10. Strange that Windows 7 doesn't come with updated drivers for a several year old motherboard, or that the drivers aren't pushed out via Windows update, so that one has to download

I just searched through every page in my AMI BIOS setup and it doesn't offer any setting for hot plug. The hard drive works fine, but it's annoying seeing the USB icon in the taskbar when I don't actually have any USB components connected... We already see off-the-shelf systems with dual-core and 8GB of RAM, and now we are seeing SSD boot disks, so I am still ahead of the game, but only just, and Actually striping doesn't offer much speed over single disk when using SSD.
I even have the option to eject disk, but there is no disk tray.
