Even in safe mode, there are lots of services running, and at any given moment any one of them might want to do some disk i/o. I have never seen this amount of disk activity except for a short period after updating net runtime, while the net runtime optimization service runs.in order to see this excessive hard I have had Norton 360 installed on this computer for several years and never had a problem until the past few days after I renewed my subscription (possible coincidence here).

Maybe I didn't listen to it for an extended period of time. I have scanned with both programs listed above and they don't find anything. Used it for a few months, light still... check over here Even if it was set for the whole computer, it would eventually stop; that's not it.
