I'm her hero. ive tried all of the obvious solutions (pinging, clearing old internet file cookies etc.) i have this problem in multiple places with my laptop, at work, at home, friends houses and Also check your DNS/gateway settings.Also, is your router using IPv4/IPv6? The problem began after I installed MS Word 2010 (I know ancient stuff, but my employer requires that I take a MOUS test). The Windows 7 IP addresses both start with 192, whereas the XP started with 169. Just spent 2 hours on line with tech support and method 1 worked the first time. every other computer in the house had internet access but mine and while uninstalling mcafee I gained internet access again. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have confidence you won't uninstalling some necessary.
